ROBERT'S ALTERNATE HISTORY PLACE

MY "MUGSHOT"

American by birth

SOUTHERN BY THE GRACE OF GOD!

Hello!  My name is Robert Perkins and I would like to welcome you to my personal homepage, devoted to

one of my prime interests, ALTERNATE HISTORY.

What is alternate history, you ask?  Well, as Doug Hoff has written...

"Alternate history is speculation, speculation about what might have been had things happened differently.

History is full of forks in the road, and the world we live in is a result of the paths taken in the past.

But it did not have to be that way."

On this site you will find alternate history timelines I have written, as well as links to alternate history websites that I would highly recommend.  Enjoy!

NEWS FLASH!

MY FIRST NOVEL IS PUBLISHED!

On October 21, 1805, Admiral Lord Horatio Nelson and the H.M.S. VICTORY sailed resolutely into battle against

the French and Spanish fleets off Cape Trafalgar, Spain.  Nelson, whose smashing triumphs at the Battles of the

Nile and Copenhagen, among others, had already made him literally a  legend in his own time, was confident as the

VICTORY sailed through a hail of cannon fire toward the enemy battle line.  But even a man such as he would

prove powerless against the forces he was about to face...and the consequences, for himself and for the men under

his command, would prove more dangerous than any of them could ever imagine.

Without warning, the VICTORY was enveloped by an unknown force which rendered Nelson and his entire crew

unconscious in a moment and transported them through time over one thousand years into the past, to the year 793.

When they awoke, they found themselves adrift, not off Cape Trafalgar, but in the North Sea,  off the coast of

Lindisfarne Island. In the distance, they could see the flames from the burning monastery there, which, unknown

to the men of the VICTORY, had been put to the torch by brutal Viking raiders earlier that day.

Faced with this bizarre situation, Nelson must make some hard choices, and the stakes involved in every one of

them could mean the difference between life and death for himself and for his crew. Lost in a hostile world, with

no friends, no home port, and no supplies, can he and his crew survive amid the violence and intrigue of the

 Viking Age?

England Expects That Every Man Will Do His Duty is my first published novel and the first in a projected series, to be entitled The Victory Chronicles

Sound interesting?  You can order it here.

MY TIMELINES AND STORIES

THE BLACK AND THE GRAY

What if the Cleburne Memorial had been released to the press in January 1864?

And, if you like the above timeline, how about imagining a world where the comparatively racially liberal

and internationally successful Confederacy of THE BLACK AND THE GRAY is transported to OUR world

 in 1950?

Read my new and ongoing story...

RED, WHITE AND BLUE...AND SHADES OF BLACK AND GRAY

BRITONS TRIUMPHANT

What if King Arthur had been able to establish a dynasty of strong hereditary High Kings in Britain?

ANCIENT EGYPT SURVIVES TO THE PRESENT DAY

What if Pharaoh Necho II and his successors of the Saite dynasty in Egypt had been able to establish

control over the gold mines of Southern Africa?

THE THIRD HITTITE EMPIRE

What if the Neo-Hittite States of Syria and southern Anatolia had combined into a unified Kingdom?

INTO THE VALLEY OF DEATH

The Puckle Gun and the Ferguson Rifle lead to a revolution in military equipment in the early 19th century,

resulting in a much bloodier American Civil War.

THE GUNS OF THE TAWANTINSUYA

What if a priest in the ancient Peruvian city of Chan Chan had accidentally discovered gunpowder...about

500 years before the arrival of the Spanish?

ROME DESTROYED IN 450 B.C.

What if Rome had been destroyed in 450 B.C. and had never gone on to dominate the Mediterranean world?

WHAT HATH A WARM OVERCOAT WROUGHT?

What if a firm Federal response had been made to Northern efforts to nullify the Fugitive Slave Act and the

Fugitive Slave Clause of the Constitution?

STARS AND BARS FOREVER (OR "EVIL CONFEDERATE WANK")

A very "tongue in cheek" timeline I wrote,  as a reaction to various debates I have had with those who feel

the Confederacy is the root of all evil and that if the South won the Civil War, slavery would exist forever.

Okay, so how bad could it have gotten?

WARNING...some viewers may find parts of this offensive.

LEE'S CANNAE

A short scenario which explores the question, what if Union General Ambrose Burnside's

pontoon bridges had gotten to Fredericksburg on time?

ANSWERING THE CALL OF LAFAYETTE

What if Napoleon III supported the Union during the Civil War, and as a result,

America intervened in the Franco-Prussian War?

GO SOUTH YOUNG MAN: PRESIDENT ABRAHAM LINCOLN, C.S.A.

What if Thomas Lincoln moved to Mississippi instead of Indiana in 1816, taking his son, young

Abraham Lincoln, with him?

LITTLE GREEN MEN

A Star Trek Alternate History Timeline

What might have happened if the Ferengi tavernkeeper at Deep Space 9, Quark, his brother Rom, and his

nephew Nog had not escaped back to their own time when they accidentally crash landed outside Roswell,

 New Mexico, in July 1947?

THE FARTHEST ONES FROM HOME

A Battlestar Galactica/Space: Above and Beyond Crossover Story

What if the Colonial Fleet from the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica series had arrived in the Procyon

System in the year 2064, where they encounter the Earth Defense Forces Fleet from the 1990s TV series,

  Space: Above and Beyond?

Q-TINUITY: A STAR TREK SHORT STORY

Captain Jean-Luc Picard faces the omnipotent entity called Q once again, in an encounter with

consequences extending over ten thousand years into the past.
